About BYP
Originating from a drama group at Canterbury Avenue Youth Centre, Bradford Youth Players (BYP) was formed in 1975 and staged its first production the following year. BYP welcomes any young person between from age 10 to young adult who is interested in the performing arts, with members given the opportunity to learn and perform drama, music and dance techniques as well as technical stage crafts associated with dramatic and theatrical performances. In March 2004 the Friends of Bradford Youth Players became a registered charity, number 1102702, running youth clubs under the name of Bradford Youth Players.
BYP is commissioned by Bradford Council to run performing arts activities for young people in a 'downtown' area of Bradford; we carry out our commission from our base on the Girlington/Heaton border, in the city's Toller Ward. We are completely open-access, and our activities are available to all young people aged 10 to young adult, regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, financial or social background, and we promote inclusivity through our events and activities. There is no entry audition or minimum standard required to join BYP, and any member who attends regularly and wishes to take to the stage will have the opportunity to do so.
