Meeting Venue
BYP's youth clubs meet at Little Lane Church Community Hall, Little Lane, Duckworth Lane, Bradford, BD9 5HD. All of our regular weekly sessions are held here, as are some of our performances and events. A location map and bus information are available here.
We are working closely with Little Lane Church to develop the church hall in order to ensure that youth events can be successfully presented in the venue. Phases I and II of work have been completed and were funded thanks to a small grant from the Trusthouse Foundation, and support from the Co-Op Foundation. With these grants we have been able to make £55,000-worth of internal alterations to the main hall to create better storage for all users and an extra meeting room, as well as an office/technical control room for BYP. This work has resulted in improved light and sound for events in the hall, and increased usability of the venue for all community groups. We are now pursuing funding to complete the internal changes and update the hall's fire alarm system.
The fire escape which was incorporated in the building when it was constructed in the 1960s does not fully meet twenty-first century requirements, and as a result the occupancy level of the hall has been reduced significantly. With the aid of an Innovation Grant from Bradford MDC and additional funding from Connexions, an architect has been commissioned to look into the feasibility of building an extension to the hall which would incorporate a larger fire escape so that the occupancy level can be raised back above 200 persons, as well as providing more backstage accommodation and secure storage.
BYP and the Church are actively seeking funding to build an extension to the hall so that the venue can reach its full potential.
