Inters Members' Committee

The Inters have recently formed a Members' Committee, following the successful model of the Seniors group. The IMC (as it is known) assists in the running of the section, ensuring that the views and opinions of the members are known, understood and acted upon as appropriate. Elections are held each year, and members are eligible for re-election to the Committee.

About the Intermediates...

In a typical Inters rehearsal we spend equal amounts of time on drama/improvisation, singing and dance. Rehearsals are structured in a way that levels of interest are kept to a maximum. Members are expected to work hard in all three disciplines but there is emphasis on fun. When preparing for a performance, the three disciplines weave together and members can see their hard work has paid off! Individual talents are quickly discovered, and encouragement to take part in competitions and external exams is offered.

Members progress from the BYP Juniors into the Inters at the end of the academic year in which they turn 11 (normally coinciding with the move from primary to secondary school). The Inters stage a large-scale production every 18 months, usually in November or May, and have regular fund-raisers and other productions throughout the year. Members progress up to the Seniors at the end of the academic year in which they turn 16 (normally the end of year 11) apart from occasions when the Inters main show is the following November, when members move to the Seniors after the show, at Christmas time.

Grant Awards

BYP Inters have recently been awarded around £1600 by Bradford Youth Grantmakers towards the employment of a dance worker and costs towards a forthcoming production. Well done to all Inters members and BYP staff involved in this application.

Membership

There are currently around 30 members in the BYP Inters group, though some will be moving into the Seniors at the end of the year.

BYP does not operate a waiting list, and new members are always welcome. We are beginning to work towards our next production over the coming weeks, and anyone wishing to join BYP for this production is also encouraged to attend a rehearsal on a Tuedsay evening, 7.30-9.30pm.

Members pay £2.50 per week, plus £20 insurance for the year (£15 if joining after January), though weekly subs may be reduced or waived at the discretion of the club leader. No young person wishing to take part in BYP activities will be turned away on financial grounds, and anyone with concerns in this regard is encouraged to speak to Rosie, the Inters' leader, in confidence.
