How BYP can Benefit Students?
Young people learn and develop a range of transferable skills at BYP which can be readily applied in their school, college or university studies, regardless of whether or not they are studying performing arts. Our members gain significant experience of team-working and develop a sense of personal focus and determination, as well as cultivating pride in their achievements and endeavours. Furthermore, most young people at BYP report their confidence increases with their time at the youth club, leading to a willingness to challenge themselves further.
Complementing the Curriculum
Although not something that happens all of the time, there are occasions when our productions cover aspects of the school (and perhaps college and university) curriculum beyond the performing arts. Recent productions where this has been the case include West Side Story and Return to the Forbidden Planet with their Shakespeare connections, and Fiddler on the Roof, which explores historical, social and cultural perspectives of life in Russia on the eve of the revolutionary period. To arrange a trip so see one of our productions and for details of discounts and offers we may be able to provide for you, please contact Ian Sapiro.
Working in Partnership
There can be significant pressures on young people, especially with regard to getting a good education, and at BYP we understand that members may not be able to attend every week during examination periods. However, our youth leaders will always try to involve young people taking exams as fully as possible in club activities so that they do not miss out on the valuable social interaction and skills development which takes place at BYP. We always stress to our members that however admirable their commitment to BYP may be, their education must always come first.
