BYP is unique, being the only youth club in West Yorkshire which specialises in delivering all of its youth work through the performing arts. We combine the best bits of a theatre school and an amateur dramatics group in a youth club setting.

The BYP Supporters' Club

The Friends of Bradford Youth Players is a registered charity (number 1102702) that provides opportunities for young people through the medium of the performing arts. To achieve this aim, the Friends of BYP run youth clubs under the name Bradford Youth Players (BYP), which offer young people the chance to make new friends and build friendships, develop their personal, social, transferable and performing skills , and generally enjoy themselves. What the BYP Supporters' Club Does

Finance

The BYP Supporters' Club plays a key role helping with fundraising to ensure that BYP maintains and develops the high-quality opportunities on offer to young people.

Publicity

Raising the profile of BYP, its opportunities for young people, and its events, is also part of what the BYP Supporters' Club does. This might be by displaying posters or delivering flyers, time permitting, or simply by talking to people about BYP's activities and events and publicising BYP by word of mouth.

Social

The BYP Supporters' Club is a social group, and we run special Supporters events. These might include garden parties, theatre trips (to take advantage of group booking discounts ), quiz nights, the chance to participate in performing arts-workshops, and other such activities.

Practicality

BYP sources or creates all of its own costumes, sets and props, and manages the backstage and front-of-house aspects of all of its productions. BYP maintains a costume store at Little Lane, and takes responsibility for managing costume, make-up and other similar tasks for events. Additionally, BYP assist Little Lane Church with work that is needed at the hall. The help and expertise BYP Supporters are very important here.

Management

All BYP Supporters' Club members gain automatic membership of the parent charity, the Friends of Bradford Youth Players, and Supporters may become trustees of the charity, sitting on the BYP Management Committee and overseeing the running of BYP's activities. The trustees have overall responsibility for the Friends of BYP, and are listed on the Charity Commission website. A list of trustees can be found below.

BYP Supporters also enjoy the following benefits:

  • Free programme (per household) for the main BYP Act 1 and Act 2 productions
  • Regular newsletters, which include details of upcoming Supporters' Club and BYP events, and further advance information on the main musical and theatrical productions from BYP's knowledgeable section staff
  • Special events for Supporters, such as garden parties, theatre trips, and quiz nights
  • Invitations to Supporters-only workshops and performances
  • Some discounts or early booking opportunities for BYP fundraising and other events (subject to government limits on the benefits to members of charities)
